About

Mission

Art, music, culture.  By young people, for young people.

Who we are & what we do

The Holland Project is an all-ages arts and music initiative by young people, for young people, in the Truckee Meadows.  Holland Project’s aim is four-pronged: 1) art access; 2) music access; 3) diverse workshop opportunities; and 4) community activism.

Holland is non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that produces more than 60 all-ages events annually in the Reno area.  Governed by its members and three volunteer boards (the Youth Board, the Core, and the Board of Directors), Holland seeks to propel Reno’s all-ages movement, and wholeheartedly support and champion opportunities for young people in our community.

Holland focuses on executing live music events monthly, curating gallery exhibits at the Holland HQ, hosting unique and affordable workshops, and presenting special events and city-wide collaborations.

Holland Project hopes to further identify Reno as a cultural center with a vibrant urban scene where art and music thrive. Holland fundamentally believes that music and art are vital forces, and that young people have the ability and right to shape and share their culture. All-ages events and opportunities are an important part of any healthy and happening community, and we’re proud to work to present all-ages offerings.

Brief History

Modeled after successful projects nationwide, including Holland’s sister organization The Vera Project in Seattle, Holland was started by a group of dedicated teens, musicians, artists, teachers, activists, business owners and community leaders in 2006.  With immense community and City of Reno support, Holland officially opened its doors in the spring of 2007 and has put on over 150 events including music shows in nearly every genre, gallery exhibits, dance performances, workshops, special events, fashion shows, film nights, and more.

Holland currently operates the Holland HQ at 30 Cheney Avenue, a small facility that houses the offices, gallery, workshop spaces, the library, and some of Holland’s more intimate and unique programming endeavors.  Holland Project has used venues city-wide for larger events, community collaborations, and shows such as the West Street Market, Studio on 4th, UNR, Nevada Museum of Art, Sierra Arts, Wingfield Park, and Barbara Bennett Park.  In the fall of 2009, Holland will host its music programming at the new Rainshadow Community Charter High School at 121 Vesta Street.
