Local clay mastermind Michael Livernash will be displaying his miniature works of art at the HPHQ from August 30 to September 3rd. This exhibit is running for a short time so don’t slouch. Come in as soon as possible so you can bask in this glory straight from the kiln.
To coincide with ARTown, Holland is hosting a full-fledged arts extravaganza on Saturday, July 17. Not only do we have murals and paintings from local Reno artists, we have music and film, wrapped up in a nice bike tour around town. This multi-stop bike tour features art from a range of awesome artists, music from local and touring musicians, and radical miscellaneous activities like bike carnival rides and piñatas. The night will end with help from the Great Basin Film Society with a screening of the silent classic, The General, accompanied by a live orchestra of Reno musicians. Bike tour begins at The Holland Show Space at Rainshadow at 6PM. Be sure to bring a bike. P.S. IT’S FREE
SPEAK YOUR MIND HIP HOP ART FESTIVAL returns on July 18, 2010 with a seven Hour Show featuring over 25 Performances: Artists, Dancers, DJ’s, a Vendor Village and more. This free event will take place outside in downtown Reno at WINGFIELD PARK starting at 3pm and lasting until 10pm. Don’t miss a full day of art exhibitions and presentations from Reno’s experienced independent Hip Hop locals and Reno’s new breed of upcoming talent, as well as, artists from around the world. Come on by to the West Street Plaza and give Holland a big hello.
Hey! Microcosm Publishing’s multimedia tour is coming down the west coast! April 9 the Post-Punk Extravaganza tour will be in Reno (at HSS Rainshadow) and will feature:
- Traveling vegan chef/author Joshua Ploeg doing a “cooking show” from his book “In Search of the Lost Taste” as well as making some interesting vegan snacks for all.
- Joe Biel will be showing the Plan-It X Records Documentary, “If It Ain’t Cheap, It Ain’t Punk!,” and doing Q&A, and setting up a well-stocked zine/book table.
- Also, Mia Partlow and Michael Hoerger of the upcoming Edible Secrets book and the brand-new Curious Case of the Communist Jell-o Box poster zine will be showing up with a mobile museum and document library on the fascinating secret history of food and espionage.
Come on out and hang with us! No charge, but donations accepted for touring folks, so come by and help them out!
This is going to be a big one! The Annual NMA/Holland Project Teen Art Night is back and happening on Friday, March 26th @ the Nevada Museum of Art. What an event: we’ve got live music from Planets, Watch it Sparkle, and Chris Gibson. We’re also going to be screening the 3 Minute Film Contest entries as well as the short film Nobody. There’s also going to silk screening, tons of art and endless rad stuff to check out. All this, and it’s only $5! You’d be a fool to miss this! 7PM.
